Build short screen breaks into your working day, and discuss recurring symptoms at an eye examination.
Give near work a pause
Try the 20-20-20 reminder: every 20 minutes, look at something about 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. Blink deliberately during screen work; people often blink less while concentrating on a display.
Make your desk easier on your eyes
Reduce reflections on your screen and choose text large enough to read comfortably. Avoid leaning closer to make out small writing. If you wear glasses, tell your eye care professional how far away you normally sit from your monitor.
Do you need blue-light glasses?
The American Academy of Ophthalmology says the small amount of blue light from screens has not been shown to damage eyes. Glasses prescribed for your computer working distance are different from blue-light-blocking lenses.
When to arrange an examination
If discomfort keeps returning, describe when it starts, how long it lasts and whether your vision changes. Bring your current glasses and tell the doctor about your screen routine. A consultation can help clarify the next steps rather than assuming every symptom comes from screen use.
